History

A long cherished dream of the knanaite family members living and working in Switzerland for twenty years, came true on April 12, 1997 at 11am, when the first SWISS KNANAYA get-together was organized at  Santa Brigita Comunity Hall at Paradiso, Lugano.

It was a historic day for the "small flock" settled here looking for better opportunities. The knanaya family members, scattered in different corners of Switzerland, reached out to Santa Brigita with great spirit and enthusiasm. The members gathered there under one umbrella and one banner, realized the real joy of sharing a family fellowship away from homeland.

The meeting held under the leadership of Fr. Dominic Madathikalathil and Fr.Sunny Plammoottil unanimously decided to organize such get-togethers every year. Hence the following three-member committee was formed for two years to take up the responsibility of conducting such fellowships:

Shri Abraham Palapurackal from Tessin Region
Shri Cyriac Keezhangattu from Aarau Region
Shri Shaji Kottarathil from Zurich Region.

The presence and active participation of Rev. Sisters of Visitation Convent in Faido and St. Joseph Sisters, Tenero, added more spirit and vigour to the family gathering.

It was a humble step taken with great determination to foster the fellowship and blood relationship among the knanaites in switzerland.Today the knanaya fellowship has grown up to its maturity and is doing a wonderful role in all the activities of the malayalee community in Switzerland.

Thanks to the strong spirit of friendship and fellowship of the knanites that nourished the growth of this comunity in Switzerland during these years.
